The condenser water is filtered on a side-stream by a large sand filter, which utilizes condenser water for backwashing. In addition, one Vortisand HVAC water filter unit serves each tower and uses city water for backwashing. The blowdown or “bleed-off” requirement is controlled by a conductivity monitor on the circulating water that opens a solenoid valve on a set conductivity value discharging blowdown through a fixed orifice to the sewer.
